Mile invites you to take a trip to Auschwitz - Birkenau, a German complex of concentration camps and extermination camps in the area of Oswiecim and the neighbouring villages. The camp, existing in the period 1940-1945, has become a symbol of the whole concentration and extermination system. It is the only concentration camp included in the list of the World Heritage UNESCO. In 1940, in this region of Poland incorporated to the 3rd Reich, Germany established a camp initially meant for Poles, but gradually transformed into the main place of massive extermination (the Holocaust) of ca. one million Jews from all over Europe, as well as many Poles, Roma, Soviet prisoners of war and citizens of other nationalities.
